Mason is on a roll with saying funny things. With this cold weather, his hands suffer a little and get dry and red. After school today, Mace held up his hands and said, "Look! They're all better." He told me that at school today he went to the nurse's office because his hands were really red and painful. He said the nurse rubbed 'GASOLINE' on his hands and now they're all better. I was laughing so hard I couldn't even talk. Zachary said, "Gasoline Mason? You mean VASELINE!!" We all got a good chuckle out of that one.
2. Andrew has had a cold for the last few days and now I officially have one too. Thanks hon. It hit me fast too - felt fine yesterday. Now I'm going through kleenex like crazy. Being under the weather, we had to skip our Stake Holiday open house tonight. I was bummed though because they have yummy food. But Andrew brought me home some Cafe Rio to make up for it. The tortilla soup totally hit the spot. Poor hubby was even in bed before the kids.
3. Had to break down and buy a pill planner box today. TOTALLY PATHETIC. I feel like some old lady. But between all my various ailments I take 4 pills a day (5 on Sunday) and sometimes I can't remember if I've already taken my pill or not. Now I've gotta throw cold medicine into the mix too!
4. I want to adopt the 4 gift rule for the kids this year. Something they want, need, wear, and read. It's hard to change up the way you do Christmas presents when it's been done a certain way for so long, so I don't know if it will pan out or not. We've talked about it with them and how Christmas isn't about getting lots of presents, etc. One particular child (#2 to be exact) isn't too keen on the whole idea and thinks that 4 presents isn't enough. See?? That is the exact reason why I want to do it. I was telling him that it's not about the quantity but I'm not getting through to him. I want to teach my kids to focus more on the true meaning of Christmas and that it feels so much better to give than receive. I hope he has a change of heart.....if not, than maybe I'll buy a package of socks and wrap each one individually to teach him a lesson :)

First - gasoline. TOO funny!! Flamable hands!!
Sorry about your cold. That stinks. But don't feel bad about the pill box. Those are so helpful!!
I LOVE this gift idea. seriously. And I will bet everyone will be fine. Or, you can start preaching the gift rule we have here: "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit!" Good luck!
hahaha, this post is so funny. I especially like the pill box. What a grandma you are! JK:)
And I like the idea of smaller christmases. I always say I'm going to do a small one and then come christmas, somehow I've gone overboard and there is way too much stuff. It's just so fun to have a big pile of wrapping paper though! I really should start now while my kids are young though so that it's not a struggle when they're older.
Also, my family growing up always had big christmases but every year, my parents made it a point to do service to help feel the spirit of christmas. We always did a secret santa for one or two families and dropped the stuff off on christmas-they would make us dress up as elves, haha-but it really helped to put the whole christmas thing into perspective. When christmas morning came, sure, we were thrilled with our big piles but at the same time, the experience from the night before and from the whole month really helped to humble us and make us feel grateful. So maybe do something like that? You could help out at the rescue mission or something like that so that they can see what the opposite end of the spectrum is, and then maybe they won't be so sad to be right there in the middle:)
Haha, did I write enough?
Oh and one more thing, I love your daily blog posts! Not even boring at all. I like hearing about day to day stuff:)
Brett and I are only doing two gifts per kid this year. Well, that's the plan. One from us, one from Santa. We've been guilty in the past from going way overboard and then they don't even appreciate or play with half the stuff we got for them anyway! Hope it works this year!
I've loved your daily blog. Makes me wish I was that on top of it to do it too. It's the little things that we tend to forget that make up 90% of our lives. This has been so much fun! Keep it up!!!!
I tried the present thing when the kids were young and when they were done with their 3 presents they all burst into tears. They get more than three now. But not too many :) And the pill bottle. Seriously? You're complaining about that? Do you know how long I've had to carry one around? And there's no way I'm admitting how many pills are in there. :)
