December Daily - Day 4

Wow - I've blogged four days in a row - that's gotta be some kind of record!

1.  The ornaments were finally hung on the tree today.  Personally I despise decorating Christmas trees mostly because I'm so horrible at it.  I can never get it to look right.  I think there is a knack to decorating a Christmas tree and frankly I don't have it.  Taylor was super anxious to do it, so I turned the duty over to my 12 year old with assistance from her 2 little elves.  Unfortunately, three ornaments met an untimely demise when they were dropped on the travertine floor (by said 12 year old and her 2 little elves I might add!!)  But in the end she did a great job and better yet - it's done and I only had to rearrange a few ornaments after the kids went to bed.  It's not perfect and won't be featured in Better Homes & Gardens anytime soon, but it will do for now.  Besides, we're the only ones that will see it, right?  However, for no reason at all, one small section of lights stopped working so there's a dark spot on the tree and it's driving me CU-RAZY!!!

2.  After being four days behind on our advent calendar, Taylor also helped catch us up on that as well.  We've never had a fun countdown idea in the past, so I decided we'd try a Lego advent calendar this year.  So far so good!

3.  Dinner was a success tonight.  Rarely do we have a dinner that everyone loves and gobbles up with no leftovers.  Tonight was one of those rare occasions where there was no complaints and plates licked clean.  It shocked me though because do you know what I served?  Mahi Mahi.  I can't take all the credit though - it was something we bought at Costco yesterday.  Just some frozen Mahi fillets that are pre-seasoned and you bake in the oven.  Served it with rice, mixed veggies, homemade pear sauce, and rolls.  Looks like I'll be buying those again!

4.  I am utterly disgusted at the constant state of disarray in my house.  I'm tired of seeing things on the floor in every room of the house and dust on my shutters.  My kids have regular daily chores and are expected to pick up their stuff everyday, but it seems like we are creating and cleaning up the same messes every day and not making progress.  I have so many other things going on during the day that I just can't dedicate the time I need to cleaning my house.  I may spend an hour or two here and there and get like one room clean or one bathroom scrubbed - but I want to get the whole house clean at the same time.  I even called a cleaning lady that a friend recommended, but her schedule is full and can't accept new clients.  I'm desperate at this point. I jokingly told Andrew that for Christmas I want 24 hours in the house ALL ALONE.  I could clean, organize, dejunk, scrub and wash to my heart's content with no distractions.  I don't know where my husband and kids would go for 24 hours, but I would love that time to make some progress in this house.

5.  We're entertaining the idea of going up to my parent's house in Utah the day after Christmas.  It would be fun.  Cold, but fun.  Plus we could have a late Christmas with my parents, my sister and her family.  Besides, any New Years plans are better than what we have planned.... which is NOTHING!

6.  Is anyone else getting bored with my posts?  My daily list of how my day went is getting old.....any ideas on what I can blog about?  I'm open to any ideas.  Seriously.  Otherwise this blog is gonna turn into a regular snooze fest.
