Guess who I spent Friday evening with?
BARRY MANILOW

I know, I know..........please try to contain your jealousy. My good friend
Jill had some promo tickets to his show at the Hilton and I was lucky enough to go with her. We had a fun time and actually had good seats - about 8 rows back in the center. After keeping his audience waiting more than 20 minutes past the 8pm showtime, he finally came out and the first thing Jill and I noticed was how tiny Barry is!! I would be shocked if he was much taller than me (I'm about 5'10") or more than 120 pounds soaking wet.
(It was like the time Andrew and I attended a taping of Letterman when we were in NYC back in 2006. David Letterman came walking out and we were amazed at what a small man he was in real life - These entertainers seem so much bigger on television.)
While I'm no major "Fanilow" I was exposed to his music alot growing up thanks to my older sister Cami, so I know most of his songs. Hard to believe this man has been performing for as long as I've been alive. Jill and I agreed though that Barry performs best when he's sitting at the piano. When he was standing and singing he had some weird head jerks and arm movements.

The best performances came at the end of the show when he sang "Mandy" at the piano and when he ended with a roarin' version of "Copa Cabana" that had the whole crowd on their feet dancing away.
During the final song he climbed up onto this plexiglass stage that was lowered from the ceiling and he was literally right over our heads, dancin' and shakin' in his bright and sparkly yellow jacket (One of 4 or 5 jacket changes during the show)
Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that one day I would ever be in the same room with Barry Manilow, let alone this close! Thanks again Jill - It was alot of fun!

So funny! Is that a bad form of spray tan? Or does he just eat too many carrots?
Wow! I am jealous. Even if he's short!
I think he sounds best when he sings his own songs. I don't like it when he does covers of other popular songs. But I'm sure it would be fun to see him in person.
Sounds like fun Heidi. I'm sure Andrew was very jealous that he couldn't make it.
I bet that was awesome, it always fun to be that close to a performer. His face is looking a little like plastic.
My mom would not allow me to listen to such music when I was young, so I might only know the Cocokabana.
Wish I could say I was jealous but not after seeing the bright colored boas. And that yellow jacket.. scary. I'm glad you had fun though.
It's always nice to have a night out. Looks like you had great seats too! Funny how celebrities look different that you think they should when you see them in real life.
I know he's an icon to some....but really? I guess for free you can say you've seen him. Did he sound the same? Usually as singers get old they don't sing their songs the same and they sound different.
lucky we get to go see billy joel

Fun fun! I'm sure you sang along, even if you didn't know every song. :)
Mark says,
can I puke now?
I went to Barry Manilow while I lived in Vegas, it was great. I loved it, but I am a Barry fan. I thought it was strange during the Copa song that everybody was rocking out and dancing and it is this murder song and about a girl that goes mad. Kindof ironic. Very fun show though!
