The Pursuit of Happyness

Sometimes husbands can say the wrong things and unintentionally hurt their wives' feelings. For example, "You're not wearing that are you?" or "This dinner is okay despite the burnt part." (FYI - these are NOT from personal experience - I have never burned dinner and we all know what a fashionista I am!) Well, not my husband. One of the greatest things I've always loved about Andrew from day one is his quick wit and sense of humor. He will say the funniest thing at the most opportune moment which makes me laugh out loud and instantly cheers me up. I wanted to relate a scene from this weekend that is a perfect example.

I don't know what it's like at everyone else's house on weekends, but around here when all 6 of us are home for the majority of the day for two straight days......let's just say it gets a little messy!! Last weekend was no different. I would pick up one mess only to have three more take it's place in other parts of the house. Dishes were piling up and I needed to run to the store for milk. I couldn't keep up and Tanner seemed to beg for more of my attention that day. By early evening on Saturday I had had it. Holding Tanner, I walked over to the couch and sat down in a huff. Andrew asked me what was wrong and in disgust I shot back, "I just can't get anything done around here!!" Andrew smiled at me and in referencing that great movie (hence my blog title) said to me jokingly, "Heidi, this part of your life is called, I can't get anything done. Just accept it." I just shook my head and laughed. After that I decided to forget the mess and try to pick up later after the kids had gone to bed.

What a wise man I'm married to. Maybe he's right. Maybe when I'm 45 or 50 years old and my kids are older, I'll get some things done and my house will be spotless 24 hours a day. That part of my life will be called, "All the things I couldn't get around to doing when my children were little."

I never did make it to the store for milk though...

Regarding the milk thing, that's what Winder Dairy is for. --Andrew

Andrew, If you're ok with spending $10 for a gallon of milk!
Heidi, Just know that there are many of us that can relate and know what you are going through! Our weekends are the same and come Monday morning it's all ok!
(easier said than done...I know!)

Steph--if it means I don't have to make a special trip to the store, I'm OK with it. Winder Dairy is for lazy people like me. --Andrew

I just don't get it....what's the problem?

Andrew goes off to work, and Heidi gets to chill out and watch game shows, soap opera's, afternoon talk shows, take a nap and on some days, grab lunch with her girlfriends. Kids pretty much take care of themselves right?

It's Andrew that we need to feel sorry for...he has to bill all of those hours. He has to act tough and outsmart the other bad guys and their legal team(s)in the arena that is our court system today. He also has to pay for the housekeeper, gardener, mechanic and chef. Nice job Andy.

It's a battle out their folks.

Props to Andy. Woof!

I think you are the quick wit. You do that to me everytime i need a lift. You always say the funniest thing. Andrew is pretty good too, I guess.

We are having to Winder Dairy battle at our house except I want it and Aaron doesn't. Maybe i should make him run to the store for milk on Saturday night huh?

Alright Hooty,

1. which golf major is the only one that doesn't change the venue of the golf course each year?

2. what is the real and correct name of the French Open (tennis)?

No looking it up! We'll see if you are offended now!

:-)

and Keith, I agree with you 100%. i don't get to watch the hills, all my children, and every match of the us open on USA every day like our wives do!

This sounds exactly like the weekends at our house and I decided to give the kids everyday chores that they have to do every night before bed. Its pretty simple for them to do and take a huge load off my shoulders. They have to pick up all of their clutter downstairs and put it away where it goes then they have to clean the play room and their rooms and also make sure their bathroom is picked up. It only takes them about 15 minutes and save me the headache.

Alright Steve and Keith -
You missed the point of my post but apparantly I struck a chord with both of you. Don't forget the boxes of chocolate and bon bons that us wives indulge in while watching said soap operas, right?

And Steve, in answer to your quiz:

1. The Masters is held in Augusta, Georgia every year ( AND I DID NOT LOOK THAT UP, JUST ASK ANDREW)
2. It's true I don't know the official name of the French Open without looking, but I bet you can't name the entire soap opera line up on channel 8!

Heidi,

you are right, i cannot name even one soap opera, and thank goodness. however, i do know that king of queens is on every day on tbs at 1 followed by seinfeld.

You guys are funny. What's Winder Dairy and which network is channel 8, I can't remember. If it's ABC I can name the soap line up, if not, your SOL. Facebook, just search for friends with my maiden name and Rancho.

I love that!! Andrew is sooo funny. He can always quote a funny line from a song or movie at just the right time. You got a winner Heidi. It's important to be able to laugh together.

If his majesty Andrew is so all knowing and wise, then I think it would be OK if you just took Saturday OFF. Then he could feel your pain and decide work isn't so bad after all. After all you could stop and get some milk on your way home from your massage and the mall.

Andrew is definitely one of a kind! Thanks for your comment on my last post Andrew - how sweet! I have say that we feel the same way! It's not easy to find friends that you feel so at home with, and I am so lucky to have so many of them!

I love this post Heidi. I'd have to say this part of my life is the 'I'm way too ambitious to actually be productive' part of my life. Brad is the only one who actually gets crap done around here. My kids would be SOL without him.

Did I ever tell you guys about the time I said that (SOL) when I taught Gospel Essentials?! I thought Brad & Gary were gonna choke on their laughs at that one. Me? I didn't really care - HA!

Chandra--I would appreciate it if you would capitalize "His Majesty." --Andrew

The Masters and Roland Garros. Duh.

It will get better Heidi. Andrew is correct...this part of your life it's impossible to ever truly "catch up" on laundry, sleep, scrapbooking and soap opera's.... embrace the chaos and make sure you pick up enough milk. Ok?

This post is exactly why I haven't blogged for a while. There is always so much to do and then you do it and it is just undone the next minute! AARG! Thanks for reminding me it can wait another 15-20 years to get done. Of course the dishes and laundry may stink by then!
