Linked 52 | Week 8 - Romance

It's been a crazy week.  With kids off of school Monday and Tuesday, it threw off my whole week.  I'm actually hosting part of a church social at my house Saturday night. Let's just say I've had my blinders on for the last few days and only focusing on getting my house presentable enough for people to come in and not be greeted by dust bunnies and Legos on the floor.  I thought about skipping this week all together because of the craziness, but after reading Kristin's post I realized I had a photo that perfectly exemplifies romance for me.

This week's theme was romance.  I really struggled with ideas because it's hard to pinpoint romance to a single thing I can snap a picture of.  I even joked with my husband on Monday that he needed to do something romantic this week so I could take a picture of it.  I think us women think of romance as these big overtures - fancy dinners, a special gift, a tropical getaway.  I've even seen a Royal Caribbean commercial lately that asks the question, "when's the last time he did something romantic?" and proceeds to suggest you need to go on a cruise for more romance in your life.  Don't get me wrong - all of those things are wonderful and I know people that live that kind of life.  But after looking up the definition of romance and how it's simply an expression of love or affection, I realized I have a lot more romance in my life than I realized.  I wanted to share once such romantic moment from my past.

When we moved into this house in May of 2010, my husband and I made a deal with the kids that we would finally get a dog.  We wanted to find the perfect one and I was all too happy to keep putting it off.  Lucky for me, that September our dear neighbors were needing to find a new home for their cocker spaniel.  Andrew and I talked it over.  I was VERY hesitant about it and all the changes a dog would bring into our lives - but we went ahead and told our neighbors we'd take the dog.

The very next day, I was still upset.  I didn't want to do it.  Imagine my surprise when Andrew sent me these flowers later that afternoon.  I couldn't believe it!  The note simply read, "Hope this brightens your day!"  It totally melted my heart.  My husband knew I was upset about getting a dog and he sent these beautiful flowers to cheer me up and let me know it was going to be okay.  Not because it was Valentine's Day or our anniversary.  Just Because.  A very sweet, simple expression of his love.  Now that is romance to me.

Yes! I love that we are all saying the same thing and I love how you explained the small vs grand expressions of romance and love. Unrelated: I feel for you and having to clean for company. In the same boat here. ;)

That IS sweet of your hubby to do that. :) And I love the little smiley face cup the flowers are in. How has the dog turned out?
