My Baby is Ten!!

My baby girl turned 10 years old yesterday - man, where did that decade go? Seems like yesterday I was at Utah Valley hospital delivering a beautiful baby girl: 9 pounds, 7 ounces and 20 inches long.

I had talked to Taylor about what she wanted for her birthday this year and she only mentioned two things: an art kit and get her ears pierced. Simple enough! Taylor asks me all the time when her and I can go and do 'girls' stuff together, but we've never made the time for it. Well, Andrew took the older boys on a overnight fishing trip, so this past Saturday was the perfect opportunity to leave Tanner with a sitter and spend time as mother and daughter for her birthday.
We sat down and planned it out-she wanted to go to lots of different places, but I told her we were on a limited time frame and we can't do all these things in one day! So with alot of prodding from me, we narrowed it down to lunch, pedicures, and the ear piercing. It might seem like a little much, but she's my only daughter and I know times like these are few and far between, so I decided to make it special for her. Of course everything is more fun with friends, so she invited two friends to join us on our girly adventure.
First on the agenda was lunch - can't do a girls day on an empty stomach! We ate at Red Robin and had one too many mozzarella sticks because the girls were pretty full by the time their lunch made it to the table. I think their eyes were bigger than their stomachs!

After lunch we made it over to Claires for the big moment. Taylor suddenly got nervous and was a little afraid of how much it would hurt. I told her that if she can handle getting a needle poke in her eye without flinching (a surgery she had a few years ago) she can handle getting her ears pierced. She picked out earrings with her birthstone and within a few seconds it was all over!

Our last stop on our fun adventure was pedicures. I was the young age of 32 before I had my first salon pedicure so I told Taylor she's pretty special to be getting one at 10! If only I had a video camera with me to capture the look on the girls' faces when these Asian men started rubbing stuff all over their feet and filing their toenails.....it was a mix of fear, disgust and giddiness. Too funny and something I won't soon forget.
It was a great afternoon and I'm so happy I had that time with my daughter to make some special memories. Oh, to be ten years old again!!

Part two of Taylor's birthday was yesterday, her actual birthday. She took candy to share with her class and even got a visit from the birthday bunny after school. Luckily the birthday bunny brought her some much needed pajamas! Taylor's birthday dinner request was Cici's Pizza, so we met daddy there then hit U-swirl for dessert.

Andrew and I kept teasing Taylor that technically she didn't turn 10 until 11:09 pm (Utah time) so she had to wait until then for her present from Mommy and Daddy. She didn't like that idea so we gave it to her before bedtime - an art kit. Of course it came with strict rules that under no circumstances shall it ever be left within reach of little brothers, otherwise I might have "art" all over my furniture and walls!!

It's just a little depressing to think that our oldest is now ten years old and growing up so fast. I was looking at some old pictures of her from just a few years ago and it's shocking how much she has matured and grown up. Before we know it she'll be graduating from high school and moving on and no longer our little girl (sniff, sniff) We love our Taylor and so glad she's a part of our family :)

What a fun day for you two. I think ten is a great age. they still like you and are not snots yet.
I got my ears pierced when I was ten too with my moms self piercers. You put them on your ears and they squoze your ear for a week until the needle part poked thru the back. Seriously can you think of a nicer way to do it? I laugh at it now. Lets torture you for one week instead of 3 sec.
I remember when Taylor was born and we all came and visited you in your house in Provo.

Crazy that she is ten already! Max just turned 5 last week and I've been starting to wonder where time has gone too.
