Last Minute Adventure

Last Saturday we took a little break from our routine - we'd been home all day doing things and waiting for my car to be done at the dealership. It was getting late and dinner time, but Andrew was anxious to get out of the house and suggested we take a quick drive up to Cold Creek. The kids weren't enthusiastic about it, but we grabbed a few things and left.

We brought binoculars with us to look for animals and Andrew mentioned to Taylor (our horse lover) that we might even spot some wild mustangs. I was hoping she wouldn't be terribly disappointed when we didn't see any!

Once we made it up there, Andrew wanted to drive us over to a little area called Willow Creek - a place familiar to him from his childhood. As we drove slowly along the very bumpy, gravel road, he shared with the kids stories from when he was there on scout campouts or Fathers & Sons outings. Taylor had the binoculars and kept an eye out for any wildlife. We did see one big jackrabbit and a couple of cotton tails hopping across the road.

We made it down to Willow Creek and decided to get out and walk around and let the kids explore. It was chilly and the sun was going down, but we didn't mind.

As we were making our way out of the truck, Andrew noticed just ahead of us in the middle of the road was indeed a wild horse! I grabbed my camera and Taylor and I quietly walked towards the horse. He crossed the road and started to head up the hill, but I managed to snap a few shots of him before he disappeared. Taylor was a little apprehensive at first to get very close, but she stood there and watched the horse until he disappeared behind the brush. It was really cool.

After our little wildlife encounter, we let the kids play in the creek for awhile and enjoy a few minutes of fresh, mountain air.

It was getting dark so we had to leave. Of course the kids did not want to go, but we promised them we'd come again when we had more time. They collected a few rocks and we headed home.

It was a fun little adventure and we definitely want to go there again, but it would be much more fun with some 4 wheelers to ride around - anyone have some we can borrow??

No elk herd? Did you go up to Camp Bonanza? The elk and deer must be up a little higher

How fun! Those kinds of excursions usually turn out better than the big planned ones.

Did you notice any escapees? They too can be spotted once in awhile round those parts. Just don't pick up any hitchhikers! It is nice to get out of town- if only for an evening. Kids love exploring and looking for anything that moves.

That would be soooo fun! Trevor was just asking Brad where we can go to ride our 4 wheelers this Summer. Funny - our ward's Father & Sons was this past weekend, a day after you were there!
