Same Old, Same Old

Not much to report from around here - pretty much ditto from last week: playing with friends, some swimming, renting movies, playing Wii, going outside for short stints in the 108 degree heat. I think it's funny to watch the local weather reports this time of year. The meteorologists try to make our triple digit heat somehow exciting and different. Like when they say the wind is gonna pick up and cool us down to 103 - yeah right. All that means is when you go outside it will feel like someone is blowing a hair dryer in your face! Their jobs must be pretty boring in the summertime.

After days and days of begging, I finally took Taylor and Zach to the library last week. Taking my kids to the library is actually kind of fun for me, seeing what books they pick out. Taylor has her own library card and you're allowed to check out a total of 20 items and boy, we fill up that quota every time. They both had a huge stack of books when we left. Taylor's picks are usually books on horses, animals, and American Girl novels. Zachary's choices usually pertain to something he's recently seen on TV or heard about. This time he wanted me to help him find books about floods and volcanoes, bears, helicopters, and airplanes. In the children's section we also saw books on AIDS, warts, and other health related topics. Taylor once checked out a book on the human body but we looked at it later at home and saw the chapter on development along with pictures and quickly took it away from her --we're not ready for that yet!!
They come home and for a few days you'll find them sitting quietly somewhere totally engrossed in one of their books. Then the interest wears off and a few weeks later it's a chore trying to round up 20 library books and getting them back in time so we don't pay huge late fees!

We're counting down the days until we leave for Utah - we're driving up this weekend to spend a week at my parents' house. The kids can hardly contain themselves; they talk about it all day. We haven't been up there or seen my family since Thanksgiving. I don't think they'll even recognize Tanner - he was only about 5 weeks old then. I'm not looking forward to paying a small fortune for gas though. It's not too comforting when you're at the gas pump and it automatically shuts off at $90 and your tank is only about 3 quarters full. YIKES!!

Don't you love the library? And this is a little known fact I just found out - late fees don't apply to kids cards, only adult ones! At least at the Sunrise library.

I filled up my tank this past Saturday - it was over $118 and I started out on almost empty. I put more in this am and stopped at $60 cause I was running later than usual - it barely went up 1/2 tank. It's so depressing.

Have fun next week! Les

We are library lovers here too. We make it once a week to go to storytime before checking out books. It is often the highlight of Max's week.
That is crazy that you know that the pump shuts off at $90. I am glad we have a mini van and not an SUV. We are only about $4.10 here. You guys must be higher than that! OUCH!!

It is fun to go to the library but I totally agree with you on what a pain it is trying to find and return each one. Be careful when you check out videos. I think they charge you $1 for every day they are late per movie!
Once we checked out six and they were four days late. OUCH!!

I think there is a warrant out for my arrest for all the overdue library books I have.

Our pumps shut off at $100....and the SUV doesn't fill up. I think we should all get mopeds.

Okay, now I'm nervous, Camille. I've got two library movies that have been sitting there for 2 months. Whoops. Have fun in Utah. We're headed there next week too.
I'm with you on the gas. i put in $60 yesterday, and only got half full. I want to cry everytime i'm at the pump wishing I could have a nice meal or some shoes with that money!

So true about the gas. I think we are actually going to have to forgoe one of our vacations this summer because it is just too costly to get to our family destinations! I used to be that at least you could drive somewhere for cheap instead of fly but now it seems that we can't even drive anywhere anymore! more of a reason to move closer to family I guess.

We lvoe the library too except the library hates us I think. We always lose the books and then have to pay a ton of money to check out another book. I sort of have decided no more library I am just going to take them to the book store and let them pick a book. It's cheaper for me that way!

what good little readers you have. good for them. that will come in handy later on in life when they are in school and actually enjoy reading the material. I just read the post where Zach said he felt bad for Dad because he lived in 1985. !? That is the funniest thing I've heard in a long time! Kids quotes are priceless.
