Fine Lines and the Signs of Aging

Skincare.

I'm not sure why I've been thinking about this subject lately.....maybe because I'm getting older or trying to take better care of myself - whatever. I've never been one who faithfully washes her face twice a day or uses all these fancy creams and lotions. I go to bed with makeup on and my moisturizer is usually just hand lotion. I've used different facial cleansers through the years: Noxema, Clean and Clear, Proactiv, etc. Believe it or not, my trusty facial cleanser has always been plain old Prell shampoo. I know it sounds crazy, but it's something a dermatologist suggested to my mom years ago and I got hooked on the same ritual as a teenager. It's never failed me and does a great job of washing off makeup and doesn't dry out my face (plus I love the smell.) I'm approaching my mid 30's now and wondering if washing off makeup is enough anymore - do I need to worry about fine lines or fight the signs of aging? I thought I had a few more years before I had to think about this stuff, but maybe I should start now so I don't have problems later.

I was at the drugstore a few days ago and looked at the wall of skincare stuff. Which one do I choose? Do I need something that has alpha-hydroxy in it? What is micro dermabrasion? Should I just pick a brand I'm familiar with? I left frustrated. I even found this website (Skin Care Rx) but looking at it just overwhelms me.

That's where all of you come in. I need some advice on skin care.......what do you use? Have you tried a certain brand that works well? Is there something specific I should be looking for? Does anyone know of a great moisturizer? And now that summer is coming, what sunscreen do you use on your face? Any input would be helpful -

I do not know if I will be any help, but I love regenerating night cream. I love the way it makes my skin feel. I use the generic Equate walmart brand, I'm just cheap! For the day I use Total Effects 7 in 1 Anti- Aging by Olay. It has spf15 and its fragrance free. For the days when I am going to be in the sun for a while I also use Coppertone spf 50 for faces. I burn easily! Its so hard to find just the right moisturizer or anything skin care for that matter! I wish that everything came in free sample packets, so you wouldn't have to spent a fortune figuring it out

We are going with Johnny's brother and his family. Email me and we'll swap phone numbers and maybe we can meet up with you some time. Johnny's parents are going to come and stay a few days too.

I'm really bad at skin care stuff but I have a friend named Whitney who does skin care and I asked her a few questions she said the most important product to put on your face is moisturizer, that's where you should spend the money. If you want you can go to her blog from mine and leave her a post with any questions you have, that way she can give you some names of stuff. I do like Banana Boats Faces sunblock. It's oil-free and so it has never done anything weird to my face. It's only an spf of 23 and so I find that I have to reapply it every 45-60 minutes if you are swimming or spending hours in the sun. I might have to try your friends Coppertone 50 spf, I'm all about sunblock protection! Good Luck!

That is crazy that you have gone so long using shampoo on your face. I guess it has worked though! Try something new until you find what works for you. I have tried a million different things. Currently I am using the Dove line of product and really like it ( and the price is good too). I haven't worried about all of the anti-aging stuff yet, but I am curious to see who has and what really works!

Estee Lauder - creamy lathering face wash, daywear moisturizer (day), night repair (night), mild toner, and pore minimizer. Like you I just started to really take this seriously and it has made such a difference! I am finally learning to take care of myself - I just hope I didn't start too late! --Les

Dove soap for daily 3x cleanse. Nightime a vitamin e and aloe moisturizer (it's light) especially around and under the eyes. In the morning I use a spa moisturize cream after my shave.2 times a month I do a light chemical peel to cleanse pores - air dry.

I don't use suntan lotion unless I'm at the beach. The spray on kind is the best (especially for kids) - spray it on your hands, then rub it on your face.

I have just decided to grow old gracefully! I am not even going to worry about the big old canyons forming on my face from my eyes. I think they are smile lines anyway. I am too old to start something new anyway. The only thing I do use as moisturizer is Cliniqe aloe lotion.
