Linked 52 | Mother

This week I knew I wanted to brag about my own mother.  Since we live 7 hours apart I couldn't really take a picture of her this week.  I knew I had to dig in the archives for some, but came to the sad realization that these are the only ones I have on my computer.  My mother is very camera shy and not keen on having her picture taken, so I hardly snap any of her.

My personal favorite - my wedding day.
Almost 16 years to the day (May 11, 1996)

My mother has always been such a great example to me.  Growing up I thought my mom was strict and kind of a "mean mom".........but as I've raised my own kids I realized those rules and boundaries were done out of love: to protect me, guide me, and help me be a better person.  She sacrificed so much for me and my siblings.  We always had delicious meals, clean clothes, rides to every activity, and was there waiting up for us when we got home late at night.  My mother is an AMAZING seamstress and would always stay up until the wee hours on Saturday nights sewing like crazy so I would have a beautiful church dress to wear the next morning.

By the time I was in high school, I was the only child left at home and my dad traveled extensively during the week.  Some of my fondest memories are those quiet nights at home with my mom when she would whip us up a batch of brownies and we would sit and watch episodes of I Love Lucy together.  Once I left home and went to college, my mom and I grew closer and she became one of my best friends.  We would talk on the phone for hours.

She is always there for me whenever I need her.  No matter how old I get, she will always be my mommy and love me and support me in whatever I do.  I am so very blessed to call her my Mother.

Sounds like my mom and at 27, I still call her my mommy! :)

In our adulthood, you really do learn why parents are the way they are with us and it's not because they're mean.. love this post. I could relate to it a lot. I never imagined having certain conversations w/ my mom then as I do now. They do become great friends.

I can't believe how much crying I'm doing going through all of these posts! I loved reading about how you feel about your mother. My mom is a seamstress too! I laughed at the line about staying up all night to sew...totally my mom! She sewed my wedding dress!

I love this, Heidi. We have similar relationships with our moms. She's my best friend. I love seeing your wedding photo too! We are both pretty lucky daughters to have the moms we have. :)
