Linked 52 | Work

*sorry this is almost a week late, but hey - I've been busy "working!"

I've worked at many different jobs throughout my life.  My first job was working at a sandwich / ice cream shop my senior year in high school.  Many jobs followed throughout my late teens and early twenties:

receptionist at a tractor financing company
day care worker at a health club
EFY counselor
dental assistant
front desk receptionist at a dental office (twice)
escrow assistant at a title company
nanny

But the work I'm currently doing is by far my favorite.....

I first found out about my current job in early January 1999, soon after having a tonsillectomy.  No application filled out, no interview conducted - it was a total surprise.  But I had wanted the job for over 2 years, so I was excited.  Since then I have been blessed with four darling "employees" that I am responsible for.

We quickly outgrew our original building and finally moved in May of 2010 to a bigger office space to run our day to day operations.  I've really enjoyed the new digs.  This is the central hub of the office.  This space is always busy and loud and even though the "employees" have been given their own little cubicles, they always seem to congregate here. This is also where I spend a lot of my time.

The work hours are insane!  I am on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - rain or shine.  If one of my "employees" has a problem I quickly step in and try to fix it. I still have to show up to work even if I'm sick and breaks don't happen very often.  In the 13 years I've had this job, I've only had 10 vacation days.  TEN!! Can you believe that?

I do a little bit of travel with my job i.e. I spend a lot of time in my car driving the "employees" to their various appointments.  My "employees" pitch in sometimes,  which makes my job a bit easier.  They like to complain though, either about schedules or their fellow "employees."

The benefits are awesome.  I don't get a paycheck per say, instead I'm paid with hugs, kisses, smiles, warm feelings, joy, handmade gifts, thanks, and I love yous.

I take my job very seriously, but it can be very overwhelming at times.  There are days I want to throw in the towel and give my two weeks notice.  I'm not the best at what I do and I know a lot of women that do this job better than me, but the work I do everyday is special to me and I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world.
