This is the story of how my new kitchen rug turned PINK....

Since we spent the weekend away, we pushed back celebrating Tanner's birthday until Sunday night when we returned home. Plus we figured he would have no clue anyway, right? Grandma and Grandpa Dixon along with Great Grandma Helen came over to help celebrate.

Tanner liked to taste his presents and had no interest in actually opening them. Of course his older brothers played with his new toys more than he did, but I think he'll enjoy them.

We don't do birthday cakes very much anymore - in recent years the kids have chosen a trip to Baskin Robbins over a cake. But Tanner needed to experience the usual first birthday cake mess, so we went the cupcake route this time.

HOORAY FOR SUGAR AND ARTIFICIAL COLORS!!

Andrew's mom made the comment that after consuming all that sweet frosting, there might be some throwing up later that night. (Truer words were never spoken!!) After Tanner finished, I ran him upstairs and put him in the tub. We got him all cleaned up, put jammies on and got him ready for bed. I was in the kitchen making a bottle and Tanner was on the floor next to me. He was kind of fussy when, you guessed it - threw up bright blue cupcake all over my new kitchen rug (we bought it just a few weeks ago.) I held him there on the rug and after he heaved a few more times, Andrew rolled up the carpet and took it upstairs to the laundry room. I cleaned up Tanner and went to wash the rug. It was a pretty rug with dark reds, browns and creams that matched the colors in my kitchen nicely. I was hoping for a miracle, but unfortunately the red dye in the fabrics bled and after washing, my new rug turned a weird shade of reddish pink and is now completely ruined. I should have used a colder water setting, but I don't know if that would have made any difference. I really liked that rug. I was so happy to find something I liked after many relentless searches. Guess I'll head back over to Pier 1 and see if I can find the same rug again. At least Tanner enjoyed his cupcake!!

I have a ref carpet in my kitchen. I made the mistake of putting it in the washer with other things ( I know what was I thinking.) Now a bunch of the boys socks and underwear not to mention many other things are pink. HA HA

That stinks that the rug bled. They should label those things. Of course you probably aren't going to take time to read the label if it is covered in throw up! I don't know if you guys throw up a lot or if that just comes with four kids, but you have had your fair share for a while!
