San Diego Trip - Part 3

My third and final installment of our trip will be about our drive down and our drive home.

The drive down to San Diego - A.K.A. 'the puking incident':
For starters we didn't leave as early in the afternoon as we would have liked but oh well - we never do!! We stopped and got the kids something to eat and got on I-15. By the time we reached the next exit, Taylor was complaining of her stomach hurting. Ugghh!! Now I don't know about you guys, but when our kids say their stomach hurts it almost always means they have to go potty. However, Taylor felt like she had to throw up, so we quickly pulled off on the Craig Road exit and stood there by the car for a minute, then she changed her mind and said she had to go potty. So we drove thru horrible traffic on Craig and pulled into a gas station for her. Finally we got back on I-15 and fought traffic all the way thru town. Once we passed the strip it was smooth sailing.
We were somewhere between Barstow and Victorville - the kids were watching movies, Tanner was asleep, Andrew was on the phone with one of his partners and I was enjoying the ride. All of a sudden Zachary starts yelling, "Ahhh, Taylor's throwing up!!!! Taylor's throwing up!!!! Ewww, Eww!!!!" I look back and see Taylor bent over throwing up all over the floor in front of her. Andrew quickly hangs up his call and pulls off on a nearby overpass. We get the 3 older kids out of the car so we can fold up the seats and try to clean up the mess. Two blankets were on the floor by Taylor's feet and luckily caught most of the vomit. I took them out and threw them on the ground. Zachary was so mad at Taylor for throwing up all over his favorite blanket. I took everything out of the backseat that got a little splatter on it and and cleaned as best I could. All I had was a roll of paper towels and some bottles of water. It didn't occur to me until later to use baby wipes - that probably would have worked better!

The only real casualties were the 2 blankets and a small backpack - everything else was salvageable. Andrew said there was no way the 'pukey blankets' were coming with us to San Diego and we were leaving them on the side of the road. Keep in mind these weren't just any blankets - these were the ratty, shredded blankets the two of them have had since they were babies - (we've been trying to get rid of them for years!!!!) Taylor and Zackie were devastated that they had to leave their blankets behind, so thru their cries they said goodbye to their 'friends' and got back in the awful smelling car. For the next 20 minutes or so Zach and Taylor sat in the back and watched a movie while quietly sobbing - it actually broke my heart to see them suffering like that. I felt so bad because those blankets were very special to them.
We don't know if it was something she ate or carsickness, but we asked Taylor to please give us a warning next time she feels like she's going to throw up!! From now on she will sitting in a different spot on our car trips!!

The drive home - stopping at Tom's Farms:

Has anyone else been here before? I believe it's in Corona, just off the freeway. We've driven by several times and finally decided to stop on our way home Saturday afternoon (perfect timing too, because Taylor mentioned she was starting to feel 'sick' again!) This place was great - they had a furniture store, restaurants, an amazing produce market, petting zoo, rides for the kids, and great shops. We walked around for a bit and let the kids go on some rides.

These are the tractor rides - Taylor and Zach really enjoyed this one. Mason wanted to go on but was too little. He was quite upset!!

Andrew took the older 3 kids on a train ride. We thought a ride on the train would calm Mason down, but it didn't. The only cure for his tantrum was a trip to the candy store!

The petting zoo was a ripoff, but fun for the kids. Zachary and Taylor rode on ponies and fed the animals. There was a goat who was very fond of Zachary and kept jumping on him - it was so funny!!

Tom's Farms was a nice pit stop and a great end to our spring break trip!!

Where are the pictures of Andrew riding on the pony?

Your car/van is going to smell fabulous in the summer. The smell of vomit.... never, ever, ever quite gets all the way out.....

So you got that going for you. Which is nice.

I dont think that you can have a fanily trip without someone vomiting all over the place. I'm glad you guys had such a great time!

Keith--I didn't pass the weight test. I was very disappointed. Heidi had the auto detailer come over to the house and shampoo that baby for about 3 hours. Now it just smells like a janitorial closet as opposed to vomit. --Andrew

What a great way to force your kids to get rid of their blankets! Good Job Taylor!! What a fun trip. Glad to hear your car now smells like a janitorial closet. That has to be better than vomit, right?

OH!!! I am so so so sorry that 1)Taylor got sick and 2) that they had to loose their blankets. I know Auri has one or two that would be completely life shattering for her to loose! Anyway, that farm looks way fun! I am glad you had a good trip!!!

Do you ever get tired of apologizing for your husband? I am so sorry for you that he is so mean to your friends. Did he listen to Elder Ballard yesterday?

Don't you love Tom's Farms? The kettle korn is addicting. I can't wait to take my annual trip to SD with Brad - no kids though. Disney World was enough! Les

Sounds like Taylor gets car sick. Not fun, Iknow her pain.

I've always wanted to stop at the Tom's Farms but have never had the chance to. Looks and sounds like fun! I love the pic with the goat jumping on Zach and his hat is practically covering his face.
