I am in the middle of getting ready for our San Diego trip tomorrow. I'm sure I will get no sleep tonight. I can't even begin to tell you how much I despise getting packed and ready for road trips. I'm blogging now just to escape it for awhile along with the piles of laundry still left to wash, my poor baby who is sick, and a 2 year old who's refusing to go to bed and currently watching 'the pig' (Charlotte's Web.)
I always have to make a detailed list before I start packing to make sure I don't forget anything. Not only is there all the 'baby stuff' now to worry about like formula, bottles, diapers, wipes, blankets.....but having a diabetic there's a whole myriad of supplies we have to have with us at all times - insulin, pump supplies, syringes, blood sugar monitor (and a backup monitor just in case), lancets, etc.
Going to a destination like San Diego, it's hard to know what clothes to pack - last year we were sweating on the first day in long pants and long sleeves. The second day we were all freezing in shorts and flip flops! Of course we always pack too much and the whole time I'm thinking, "why did I pack so many clothes?" Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to just jump in the car with a few items and drive to your destination and just buy everything there that you needed? I would love that!! I try to pack light but it never works out! If I only had to pack, road trips wouldn't be so stressful. Unfortunately, I make life much more difficult because of my crazy logic that I can't leave a messy house when I leave for a trip. I want to come home to clean. I feel the need to do all the laundry and the dishes. Am I obsessive/compulsive?
And yes, Tanner is sick. I know I've mentioned it in the past 2 posts - sick kids. I swear at least 1 out of the 4 children have had some type of ailment everyday for the past 3 weeks. We have never had such a long period of sickness in our house like this before! I think it's over and then someone wakes up with crusty eyes, or a cough, or a fever, or a runny nose....AAARGH!!! I really don't deal well with sick kids. And the icing on the cake? Andrew started to get sick yesterday, so that will make for a lovely car trip! I'm praying that the climate change will do us all some good!
I better get back to work. Until next time........
San Diego here we come!!

Sounds like a fun trip. Sorry about all the sick kids. I'm totally the same with packing, I hate to do it, I stay up all night the night before, I pack way too much and I hate to come home to a dirty house. -so good luck with that. Can't wait to hear about your trip, have fun!
Have fun and good luck with the packing! I hate that part too. And unpacking. Ugh! Anyway, I hope everyone gets feeling better soon! Have a wonderful trip!
Everything you said is so true, and sometimes while you're packing you think, "Is this all worth it?" and even when you get back and you have just as much laundry as you did before you left you ask yourself again, "Was that worth it?" But when you see your kids running on the beach playing and all the memories you'll make...it is worth it, it's just hard to remember that when you get back to all that laundry. I have to leave my house clean too when I leave because one of my greatest fears is being killed while we are away and having my mother-in-law come see my messy house. I hope your babies get better soon so you can enjoy yourselves. HAVE FUN!
I am so jealous. I need a warm vacation. We ate at UNO. It was yummy. We also ate at Petterino's. It was downtown, right by the theater. It was so yum. Our waiter was the best.
I am with you on the packing way too much and having to have the house clean. Sometimes it is way too hard to take a road trip.(And I only have 2 kids to deal with!) Are you staying at that hotel in the picture on Coronado Beach? We visited there last time we were in San Diego and it is gorgeous! Hope you are having a fun trip without any sickness.
My advice- buy laundry soap, and take enough of each kind of clothing. We have gone to San Diego every yera since we were married, and every year we had the same problem- it's just too much stuff to pack along with jackets, and baby gear. So we tried the laundry thing and it was great! Pain and a little scary using the laundry facilities, but at least we weren't toally bogged down with bazzilions of suitcases!
Sick husbands are the worst- I'd rather have 5 sick kids then one sick husband!!
