Holiday Season

The holiday season seemed to happen so fast for me this year....Tanner was born and then before I knew it we were trick or treating and then BAM 3 weeks later we were sitting down to a turkey dinner. Christmas time is in full swing now, even though it doesn't quite seem like it for me yet. To help get in more of a festive mood, I've been thinking a lot the last few days about things I love about this time of year....traditions we observe or things I see, etc. Here's a list of some of the things that truly make me smile:

  • First and absolute numero uno: receiving christmas cards and letters. There is nothing I love more than seeing pictures of loved ones and reading about their lives. I tape them up on our hall closet door (can't seem to find a better solution) so we can glance at them until New Years. It truly makes me sad when I have to take them down.
  • Christmas lights in palm trees
  • Watching White Christmas and singing along to all the songs
  • When people decorate their cars for Christmas (you know you've seen wreaths on the front grill of pickup trucks before!!)
  • The ringing of the Salvation Army bell when entering or exiting Walmart
  • Listening to christmas music (of course)
  • When the only lights on in the house are the christmas tree lights
  • Buying a real pine wreath at Target and hanging it on my front door (they smell amazing)
  • Passing out neighbor treats to our friends
  • Singing christmas songs in Sacrament meeting
  • The wish lists for Santa that my kids write up. I think the one Taylor did the other day had 43 items listed on it, including an ipod, her own TV, a cocker spaniel and a cellphone
  • Eating soup on Christmas Eve
  • Making my own Christmas cards
  • The 25 Days of Christmas on ABC Family Channel...a different holiday movie every night
  • Driving around the neighborhood and seeing all the inflatable snowmans, Grinches, Santas, and snowglobes
  • the huge toy catalogs from Toys R Us and Target you get in the Sunday paper and hearing my kids scream with delight everytime they turn a page

I could go on and on.

How about you? What do you guys love about the holiday season? Please share with the class.

Building a snowman. cutting down your own Christmas Tree (although we are going to try that for the first time this year) Hot chocolate, Christmas caroling, watching movies under a warm blanket, watching Daniel shovel the sidewalk in shorts( which is what is happening right now) sledding, sleigh rides to see the Christmas lights. There are so many.

Ditto to all of those. The truck you saw the wreath on was not mine. I love the Live Nativity. That is when we know it is really Christmas season!!

I know everyone raves about the Christmas lights on temple square, but the best is the Mesa Temple. And their Easter pagent. Two must-sees.

Does Taylor think she is already a teenager? What a list!
You've got most of my favorites on your list too. We love to make gingerbread houses and sing Christmas carols with the kids.

I love the Christmas music- it starts November 1 every year and goes until the middle of January! I just love the feeling- everyone seems so happy at this time of year.

That cracks me up about S&M. DO you really not know that person? I got Dustin's ornament at a craft fair in California during the holiday season. BUT I am sure you could find it online somewhere. That is usually how I get some of my ornaments.

Yes, after some detective work I figured out who s&m is--sorry Stephanie, I didn't recognize your other sign in name!
